AFTER spending three months in hospital following a motorcycle crash, a Worcester man was inspired to start donating platelets to help save others in need – and now he’s calling for more people to become donors.

Most people may think that the NHS blood donation service is all about just blood donation, but it’s less well known that platelets – the cells that circulate in the blood and clot to keep us from bleeding – are required too.

People with leukaemia, cancers or those who have had major surgery or injury causing severe blood loss cannot produce enough platelets and so require donors.
