THEY’RE Ridgehaven’s very own blood brothers.
The Pelican Plaza blood donor centre was the focal point of a record-breaking effort last week.
Davoren Park man Erhard Wilhelm opened his veins for the 550th time on August 16, breaking the state record for donations.
And that effort was almost matched by his good friend Lyndon Hutchinson, of Payneham, just 15 minutes later with his 400th donation.
It’s been a partnership produced on plasma.
Through regular bi-monthly donations over the years, the pair have become firm friends.
But it’s not been all roses between the two.
“There’s a healthy rivalry between Erhard and me,” says Lyndon.
“We have a race, yet he wins every time.”
Erhard and Lyndon began regularly donating blood as young men in 1966 and 1961 respectively, and then moved on to donating much-needed plasma.
