Dozens of volunteers rolled up their sleeves Thursday at the state capitol to donate blood in honor of Del. Danielle Walker’s son, Demetry, who recently passed away from leukemia.

Demetry Walker, 23, passed away on June 19 from Chronic Myloid Leukemia. June 24 would have been his golden birthday.

“Demetry had one ask when he received his first blood product,” his mom, Del. Danielle Walker said. “And that was, ‘mom, for every one I receive, I want to make sure that we give ten back.'”
