Two parents and the Fort Wayne Komets are hosting a blood drive honoring a young girl with a rare blood disease.
Matthew and Jennifer Willett are partnering with the American Red Cross and the Komets in promoting the blood drive, to take place on Sunday.
They said the drive was inspired by their 5-year-old daughter, Makayla, who was diagnosed with a rare blood disease called Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The disease causes their daughter’s body to destroy her own platelets, according to the parents.
