Jerry Valdez had been a blood donor all of his life but six years ago, he needed a life saving donation himself.

Valdez was hunting with a kid neighbor when he was accidentally struck in the back by a shot from a 20 gauge shot gun.

The boy called 9-1-1 and Valdez was transported to Salina hospital where he received twenty two units of blood.

Valdez had been a regular blood donor even before his accident but now that the Red Cross is in desperate need for donations, he’s encouraging the community to roll up their sleeves and donate.
