The plea for blood donors continues this week after multiple traumas and severe weather over the holiday weekend. But that’s not the only reason Hoxworth Blood Center needs you to roll up your sleeves.
“He was born at 24 weeks, four days at 1 pound, 12 ounces,” said Katie Seibert.
Little King George, as he was affectionately known in the neonatal intensive care unit, has had quite a story of survival.
“While he was inpatient, he needed 13 blood transfusions, which saved his life,” said Seibert.
George is now 14 months old. Along with his five brothers and sisters, he’s really getting into the swing of things.
“As small as he was when he was born and as big as he is now — it’s a miracle,” said Frank Napier, George’s father.
A miracle they say that has brought them so much joy and would not have happened if people hadn’t donated blood and blood products to save his life.
