It’s safe to say Roelif Loveland and Henry Hackman aren’t scared of needles.
Combined, the two area men have donated more than 54 gallons of blood over the course of their lifetimes, which means they’ve sat through at least 432 sessions under the needle.
So what keeps them coming back to donate? The NewsTribune caught up with the longtime blood donors to find out.
Mother Knows Best
Loveland’s mother Fannie was a Red Cross blood donation recruiter. That means that he and his five siblings had plenty of opportunities to give blood growing up in Peru. For the past 44 years, Loveland, 60, has kept at it – and this Tuesday he reached a milestone of 29 gallons donated.
