The Murray family has spent time both donating their own blood and waiting for a blood donation.
Chris Murray, their son, was born with hemophilia, a bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly.
Since his birth in 1974, the Murrays say they donate blood at least every eight weeks.
“People can’t schedule when they’re going to need blood, but we can schedule when we give blood,” Lila Murray, Chris’ mom, said.
The family encourages others to donate blood and knows personally how donations can save a life.
“When he became a toddler, we might have had to infuse him once a month, sometimes every other month,” Lila said. “It just depended on how active he was.”
