Tecumseh High School basketball cheerleaders helped fill the appointments for a blood drive Tuesday in Adrian and some donated themselves.
The varsity basketball sideline cheer team’s efforts were to help the American Red Cross at a time when blood supplies are low, said the team’s coach, Michelle Lee. Team members could either donate blood themselves or, if they could not because they were to young or didn’t meet other criteria, they could recruit others to give blood.
“When you need blood, you need a few liters, not just one at a time,” Lee said as team members gathered at the Christian Family Centre.
“My dad needed blood,” Isabella Lee, a junior member of the cheer team and Michelle’s daughter, said. “If people hadn’t donated, he could’ve died, so it’s really helpful.”
“As many people as are able should” give blood, junior Holly Dennis said.
Brianna Rhodea, a junior, said she was looking forward to being able to give blood. She said it was one of the first things she thought of when she turned 16.
“I can help people, and I think it’s cool,” she said.
