Philip Gianiotis fought and beat his cancer, and now he and his family want to make sure all other children survive the disease too.
TAUNTON — Three-year-old Philip Gianiotis loves to sing and dance, color and play with his toys. He’s a happy, active toddler — and you’d never know by looking — but in his short life, he’s already been through a lot, from a month-long hospitalization to months of chemotherapy.
Philip has acute lymphoblastic leukemia — a type of cancer in the blood and bone marrow that affects white blood cells. Now that he’s doing well, Philip and his family are partnering with Stop & Shop in honor of National Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month to raise money to help other children still battling cancer find solutions.
Philip’s journey has been a long one. Though his mother Eleni Gianiotis said he was a healthy, full-term baby, around when he turned 1, he started having constant ear infections and fevers.
“We had antibiotics in my fridge non-stop,” she said. “He would finish one cycle and then he’d start the next cycle of antibiotics.”
