The Winnipeg Goldeyes is teaming up with Canadian Blood Services to make a pitch to encourage Winnipeggers to step up to the plate and donate blood in support of local patients like Ryder Robinson.
Donors who come to the Winnipeg donor centre during the Step Up to the Plate and Donate blood drive from April 15-27 will receive a pair of tickets to one of two Goldeyes exhibition games in May.
When he was only eight months old, Ryder was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and had to undergo 10 months of intense treatment, including blood and platelet transfusions. At the age of two, Ryder relapsed and had to endure additional rounds of treatment, blood and platelet transfusions, and ultimately a bone marrow transplant which saved his life. Thanks to the generosity of blood donors, recipients like Ryder are able to enjoy baseball with their families.
