On Nov. 11, 8-year-old Gracie Andrews received life-changing news.

It was the day she was diagnosed with leukemia, and routine doctor appointments and chemotherapy became a part of her everyday life.

Since Gracie’s diagnosis, relatives and friends of the Andrews family have been asking what they can do to help.

After a hospital visit one day, the Andrews began to tell people they could help by donating blood. Gracie and her parents waited six hours for blood to arrive because there was none in the hospital. The doctor’s told her and her family that there was a shortage of blood.

That was the moment that sparked the idea for a blood drive. Since then, Gracie has worked to spread awareness not only for childhood cancer and leukemia but for all types of cancers or illnesses that require blood.
