The community is invited to give blood in honor of Nora Scott at a special American Red Cross blood drive Aug. 24 and 25. Join this lifesaving mission Aug. 24, noon to 5 p.m. at Story County Human Services Center, 126 S. Kellogg Ave., Ames, or Aug. 25, noon to 5 p.m. at Story County Administration Building, Public Meeting Room, 900 6th St., Nevada.
Born in April 2015, Nora was diagnosed shortly after her second birthday with stage two high-risk pre-b cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia with central nervous system involvement. This condition is an acute form of leukemia or cancer of the white blood cells.
Nora is an energetic toddler, delightful, adorable and full of life. Throughout her treatment, Nora has received nearly 12 blood and platelet transfusions and may need more as treatment continues.
The Scott family hopes the community will give blood in her honor. “Our family is very appreciative to have a blood drive in honor of our daughter,” said Jeff Scott, Nora’s father. “We never thought too much about the importance of donating blood. Now with all of Nora’s treatments, we see the significance and how essential it is for her treatments. We hope that her story and fight for life will continue to raise awareness for the need for blood donations.”
