A Tri-Cities man has received national recognition for helping to grant others the gift of life.

Dan Porter was one of just 13 people nationwide inducted into the Donation Hall of Fame, sponsored by Fenwal, Inc. The Donation Hall of Fame recognizes individuals across the U.S. who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to blood donation.

Porter has been donating blood for over twenty years. Since retiring, he has been donating at the American Red Cross blood donation center in Richland every couple weeks, and he has donated around 360 units of blood in total. He started donating platelets after two of his friends died from cancer.

“I couldn’t anything about what they were going through, however, I thought, I can donate platelets,” said Porter. “It may not help them directly but it’ll help people going through the same thing.”
