Retired teacher John Gomm, who is 84, first began his blood donation journey aged 19.
John now regularly donates his blood at sessions taking place at Colchester United stadium.
He previously received an award for making 75 donations.
John said: “I was studying at university to teach and they had a blood donor session in the college.
“That was my first one.
“I carried on thereafter for all my life. At first, we were only allowed to give two donations a year, it’s gone up to three a year.”
John further explained that while many donors stop at the age of 70, he has been able to continue as his A Rhesus Negative blood is ‘very useful’.
He said: “[They] have done a lot of development in the understanding of blood.
“My blood is not unique, there’s five or six in the Colchester area with a similar type.
