Mark Slabach, of Halifax County, completed his 20th gallon donation at the last blood drive at the Community Donation Center located at the Mary Bethune Complex in Halifax.

Slabach is quickly recognized by many in the community as he has recently retired from the local hospital. For 10 years, he was a nurse in the intensive care unit and then for 10-plus years he worked with utilization review and discharge planning.

Recognizing the need for blood and importance of giving, Slabach began donating in high school and has continued whenever possible.
