Holidays are approaching and it’s typically a slow time for blood donations. With COVID-19 cases still rising in Kansas and Missouri, the Red Cross is encouraging young, healthy individuals to donate.
The need for blood never goes away but the pandemic has created new challenges.
Many regular donors are elderly and remain isolated due to COVID-19. Many annual blood drives are canceled because schools are closed or operating with limited capacity.
The Red Cross is finding alternate sites but it is urging more young, healthy individuals to consider donating, especially those who have recovered from COVID-19. The blood is automatically tested for the anti-bodies.
