A North Kingstown woman received the gift of life.
“In March 2019, I was in the ER at the Rhode Island Hospital and I ended up finding out after about 11 days at the hospital that I had liver disease,” said 42-year-old A.M. Finlay, a wife (her husband is Chris) and mother of two young children: 9-year-old Annabelle and 7-year-old Izzy.
It turned out she had a tumor so large, it couldn’t be removed.
“The only option to keep my life was to get a new liver,” said Finlay.
As she waited for that transplant, she needed seven blood transfusions.
“If I didn’t get those, I wouldn’t be alive,” said Finlay.
Meantime, her cousin’s wife, who lives out of state, stepped up to the plate.
“My donor, Carol Ann Ruda, donated 70 percent of her liver,” said Finlay.
