Jeanne Butcher is one of Wales’ longest serving blood donors, doing her bit to save lives across the country.

Over the last 59 years she has donated blood 100 times and is now encouraging her local community to do the same.

The 71-year-old from Bassaleg, Newport was recognised at a recent awards ceremony for the milestone achievement.

Jeanne said: “I was encouraged by a colleague to attend my first blood donation clinic back in 1965 when I was 18 and working in Newport.

“I’ve donated regularly ever since.”
