Nearly 18 years after receiving life-saving surgery, a Maple Ridge student is now hoping she can help save others as well with her upcoming blood drive.

Addison Nickel of Thomas Haney Secondary is the driving force behind the blood drive, which will be hosted at her school on June 11 in honour of National Blood Donor Week.

Typically, the Maple Ridge blood drives take place at the Maple Ridge Alliance Church, but Nickel said she wanted to have one at Thomas Haney because of the overwhelming support she received from the students and teachers there.

“Thomas Haney and Maple Ridge have been a big part of my life for the last five years, so I wanted to do something to give back to the community before I graduated,” said Nickel.
