Ninety-two-year-old Loveland resident Ron Reidy has been giving blood for so long he no longer remembers exactly when he got started, though he knows he was in his 60s or 70s and gave his first donation with a friend in San Diego.
What Reidy is quite certain of, however, is that he has been giving blood regularly ever since and “plans to keep going with it as long as I can.”
On Tuesday, Reidy showed up at the Loveland Police Department intending to give the donation that would bring his lifetime donation total to approximately 50 gallons.
It was to be a donation that would put him in rare company. Vitalant (formerly Bonfils Blood Center), the Colorado blood donation nonprofit Reidy gives blood to, has only had 27 other donors surpass the 50 gallon mark in its 75-year history.
