First responders in South Florida are helping one of their own with a special blood drive.

Dozens of people stepped inside one of the four One Blood Red Buses parked outside the Boynton Beach Police Department Thursday.

Those who volunteered were there to donate blood and help 5-year-old Jacob Schwartz who’s battling bone cancer.

Organizers said appointments were already booked before the blood drive started and by noon more than 70 people had signed up to donate blood.

Det. Brent Joseph, who’s with the Boynton Beach Police Department, was one of several law enforcement officers who didn’t hesitate to help a colleague.

“It’s a brotherhood,” Joseph said. “We heard about the officer’s son and their need for help so of course myself and four busloads and we immediately signed up.”
