Last night we told you about one family’s recent tragedy. Brother-in-law of Garrett Sands, Danny Joe Smith Jr. was the victim of a near fatal wreck. He has no brain function.
We learned today Smith is in the process of becoming an organ donor. Last year, Sands was shot and killed. The family has had their share of tough times, despite their difficulty, the Garrett Sands Kindness Project continued tonight with their second annual blood drive in memory of Garrett.
The kindness project encourages people to perform acts of kindness like giving blood. The drive was held at Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus from 2:30 to 6:30 today. We talked with a Cobblestone employee who is also Garrett Sands’ cousin.
“It’s very important that we try to do what we can living, to give back the gift of life and giving blood. It’s something that anybody can do, it’s free, it’s east. It just takes a couple of minutes and it’s done,” Aileah Schetz, with Cobblestone life enrichment, said.
