Wendy Baumle, instructor for the senior health tech class at Vantage, was overwhelmed on Friday when 77 people from Vantage turned out to give blood for the United Way’s 20th annual Day of Caring event.
Friday’s event once again incorporated can collections at Vantage, giving blood at Trinity Friends Church and collections at various businesses in the community.
“This is the best-ever turnout for saving lives,” said Baumle. “Seventy-seven students from all labs and Vantage staff from the whole school are donating. People are lined up; this is the biggest year ever.”
Baumle said that personnel from the United Way, Vantage Career Center and American Red Cross have joined hands for this year’s effort.
“There is a real big need for blood right now,” commented Diane Mercer of the United Way. “This community is really coming together to donate. Those who donate are giving life to someone. It’s a great cause to come together for.”
