Bob Glenn wore his red shirt to mark the occasion. One hundred and fifty blood donations.
On Friday (Nov. 4), Glenn rolled up his sleeve for the 150th time to make a donation at the Canadian Blood Service’s Barrie office.
Glenn tells Simcoe.com his journey to 150 donations started with a casual conversation with a coworker.
“I used to work with a lady in Alliston back in the 1990s. And she said, ‘I’m going to donate blood tonight.’ And I thought, ‘well, you know, I’ve never done it. But if you can do it, I can do it.’ So I gave it a shot. And once I did it, I realized how simple it was,” said Glenn while he was getting registered at the Barrie blood bank.
Cheryl Russell of the Canadian Blood Services’ Barrie office did some quick math and figures that Glenn has saved plenty of lives in his time.
“Let’s put it this way: 50 donations are needed just to save one person in a car crash. So right there, if his donations were to just go to (victims of) car crashes across Canada, he has saved three people’s lives. So that is a huge, huge impact on those people’s lives.”
