A big-hearted Rutherglen pensioner has saved or improved the lives of hundreds of people by making more than 400 donations of blood and platelets.
Now dad-of-two John Moore, who has been hailed one of the most committed donors in Scotland, is to be honoured at a special ceremony in Glasgow City Chambers.
He made his first donation in 1971 as a young undergraduate at the University of Edinburgh.
“I can remember it well,” said John, of College Gardens, who worked at the University of Glasgow’s research library for 40 years.
“They used to have sessions in the McEwan Hall at the university. There were beds across the whole place and you’d lie looking up at the magnificent ceiling.”
