The community of Sacramento stepped up in a big way and filled up all of the spots to donate blood for the 18th Annual KCRA 3 Blood Drive for Life.
Thursday was day two of four of the blood drive. A total of 186 people participated, and a total of 381 people have participated since the start of the drive.
Bonnie DiBenedetto is one of the many who didn’t hesitate to donate. She knows all too well how a few minutes out of her day can go a long way. At just two days old, her baby boy needed an exchange transfusion to save his life.
“It was terrible,” DiBenedetto replied when KCRA 3’s Brittany Johnson asked her what she recalls about that day many years ago. “I was just so afraid, and he was so tiny. He was a big baby but a tiny little thing. The doctor suggested that the only way to get back to healthy was to have an exchange transfusion, which is where they take all the blood out and
