You’re invited to stop by KARE 11 from 1-7 p.m. Thursday to help save some lives as we team up with Memorial Blood Centers for the Health Fair 11 Summer Blood Drive.

The demand for blood is constant but the supply is not. Memorial Blood Centers says one in three people will need blood in their lifetime. For Ike Yarmon, that need came early in life.

Ike is 10 years old now and is looking at photos from the last five years of his life.

“This is one from when I was in second grade for Valentine’s,” Ike said. “My hair was bald.”

He describes the times in the hospital as scary.

“The needles,” Ike said. “So much people in the room.”

His mom, Chelsea Yamron, says Ike got the news three days before his fifth birthday.

“They did a bone marrow biopsy and that’s where they had found the leukemia cells,” she said.

He had 22 spinal taps total. Family and friends helped him through the challenging times. Some strangers even sent him gifts. But the best gift Ike got was the gift of life: your donated blood.

“As soon as he got the blood transfusion, he perked up,” Chelsea said. “His color came back.”
