Five times a year for 32 years, Ken Doe gave a part of himself so that others might live.

Doe, now 82, just donated his 200th pint of blood to the American Red Cross. That makes a total of 25 gallons of blood he’s given in his lifetime.

He wanted to let people know of his efforts to help hospital patients in need, in hopes it will encourage others to give as well.

“I know I’m in rarefied air, as few people have given over 200 pints of blood,” said Doe, a Rochester, New Hampshire, native who has lived in Haverhill with his wife, Nancy, since the 1960s.

Kelly Isenor, spokeswoman for the American Red Cross, Massachusetts region, called Doe’s story “incredible.”
