Instead of presents and birthday cake for her son’s first birthday, a Guelph mother is asking for blood donations and cash donations to the Cardiac Critical Care unit at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto.

Nolan Glazier was born on Feb. 6, 2017. Only nine days later he underwent open-heart surgery.

The newborn was missing a pulmonary artery and had a large gap between the bottom two ventricles in his heart, said his mother Julie Glazier in an interview with CBC.
