One of Scottish rugby’s rising stars is urging people to join a blood donation drive in memory of his late brother.

Ollie Smith, the 21-year-old Glasgow Warriors full back who was called up to the Six Nations squad, helps run the Give Blood 4 Good charity, started after his brother Patrick died in 2019 at the age of 21.

Patrick, a chemical engineering student at the University of Edinburgh, fell from a third-floor window during a house party and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He was a passionate blood donor so this seemed like the perfect thing to do in his name,” Smith said. “He did his first donation on the first day he was legally able to, his 17th birthday”
