There are thousands of people across Canada who need blood every day: blood they can’t produce themselves, blood they need replaced, or blood they need to receive life-saving medication. To fill the need, more than 2,000 Canadians step up every day.
According to Canadian Blood Services, in 2017, 730,841 blood donations were made across Canada, 375,000 of those came from Ontario, and more than 8,000 were contributed at the Kingston Donor Centre. Locally, 52 per cent of donors are women and 48 per cent are men.
Two people who had never donated blood work right here in Kingston … and they happen to sit right next to each other at The Kingston Whig-Standard: local journalists Meghan Balogh and Steph Crosier.
