For Zeeland resident Bruce DePree, being 92 years old is no reason to slow down.
Among his many activities, he makes sure to schedule in one specific life-saving operation regularly: giving blood.
“I’m a real organized person. I’ve done it all my life,” he said. “I try to program various things, and when I hear blood drive, I immediately put that on the calendar, and we work around that.”
He first gave blood when he was in high school, after his cousin had a severe injury that left him in urgent need of blood, so the family put out a call, asking for anyone to donate.
“About four months ago, I saw my cousin, who I gave blood to when I was in high school, and whenever I see him, he’ll bring that up,” DePree said.
