Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs life-saving blood.

That need was never more evident than for Great Falls resident Troy Ross. Ross suffered from an autoimmune disease called pulmonary capillaritis, a rare lung disease, and needed nine pints of blood just to get airlifted to Seattle.

Troy spent months at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

“I honestly didn’t think Troy would see one month of 2018, to be honest,” said an emotional father, Wes Ross. “His medical team came in and sat my wife and I down and said, ‘You need call your loved ones and family and let them have a chance to say their goodbyes. We don’t expect Troy to make it through the day.’”

But Troy is a fighter and was able to beat the odds. That’s where TroyStrong started.

The Rosses started a blood drive during the last few weeks of June, since June is Troy’s birthday month.

Troy, who is now 7, received more than 90 blood transfusions.

“We want to pay it forward. Without the support of donors like yourself, I wouldn’t have a son. From my wife, my children, my family, we thank you,” said Ross.
