Aaron Cassidy’s son, Axel, was two and a half when doctors found a lump in his head.
“It felt like it was the last weekend we were going to have with our son. It was the longest weekend of our lives.”
The 36-year-old spoke to RSVP about how a blood transfusion helped his son and why he is a blood donor.
Axel underwent a 12-hour surgery at Temple Street Hospital, Dublin in July 2018. 80% of the tumour was removed but the toddler’s recovery was slow. After tests, doctors decided to give him a blood transfusion.
“It wasn’t an emergency blood transfusion,” continued Aaron.
