During the coronavirus crisis, those locally who would like to donate blood will not be able to do so through the customary blood drives, but may have to travel a distance and make an appointment to donate, during limited time slots.
Blood services, such as the New Jersey Blood Services and the American Red Cross have indicated that during the COVID-19 crisis, donating blood has become more critical, to keep the blood supply at an optimal level. Cancellations of blood drives have occurred as a result of the health crisis and need to socially distance, which have lowered the blood supplies.
According to the Red Cross, there is a blood shortage at blood banks, that could impact individuals with cancer, those in automobile accidents and other emergencies and those who need surgery.
