With recent tragic events occurring across the country from Florida, to Texas to Puerto Rico there is never a better time to donate blood than now.
On Thursday, at the Waynesboro American Legion’s ballroom at 63 E. Main St. the American Red Cross will be set up and accepting donations of blood from noon to 6 p.m.
“The amount of givers nationwide has started to fall off, “said Bernie McGarity, co-chairman of the blood committee with the Waynesboro American Legion. “The people who were lifetime givers are getting older and now they are having medical problems which puts them on medication and wipes them out to be able to give blood.”
To try and counteract the declining number of willing suitable blood donors, the American Red Cross is making strides to educate the youth of America about the importance of donating blood by connecting with students at all grade levels.
