Throughout Saturday hundreds of community members arrived at Colby High School to donate their blood in memory of Denis Woik. This was the first memorial blood drive for Denis since his passing in 2018.

Denis was diagnosed with Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer in November of 2017. Shortly after, he began receiving blood transfusions to build up his low hemoglobin and combat his constant fatigue. Unfortunately, after losing his battle to cancer, he left behind a wife and two daughters who took it upon themselves to organize the blood drive to keep his memory alive.

“This is a huge production and hard to do something of this magnitude,” stated Becky Brown, with the Blood Center of Wisconsin. “This community really banded together and it turned out a huge success. Which is great because summer is our most important season for donations.”
