Caring David Machin has been to give blood and vital platelets an incredible 200 times over the last three decades – after witnessing first-hand the important role donors play in saving lives.
Back in 1986 the forklift truck driver had waved goodbye to wife Kim and left her with their newly-born daughter Clair.
But after receiving an emergency call he returned to their home to find an ambulance in the middle of the road with medics tending to his wife who had suffered a serious haemorrhage.
The 64-year-old, of Burslem, said: “Our daughter Clair was born on February 3, 1986. That was a Monday and by Friday they were both at home and I was going to work in Norton at the time.
“Kim told me she didn’t feel well but her mother was due to come around and see her anyway.”
Dudson Museum worker Kim said: “After he’d gone I just knew something was wrong and I could not stop bleeding. I had to crawl downstairs and ring my mum.
