Soon after she and her husband Greg arrived in Onida to make their home here in 1992, volunteer blood drive coordinator Diane Lorenz organized her first blood drive, and she’s been serving as the coordinator ever since. In recognition of her twenty-five years of volunteering, United Blood Services’ July 25 blood drive has been declared the Diane Lorenz Community Blood Drive.
“The impact that Diane has had on the blood drives in Onida and the blood supply in South Dakota is honestly not measurable,” said United Blood Services (UBS) Senior Donor Recruiter Abbie Gail Arneson. “Every blood donation means the possibility of one more hug, one more laugh, one more dance, one more walk on the beach, one more birthday, one more talk with a friend, and one more chance at life. Diane is behind many chances.”
UBS records dating back to 2004 indicate that Diane has scheduled 1654 donors with appointments, recruited 175 first time donors, and brought in 1731 pints of blood. “I really wish we had the stats going back to when Diane started coordinating the Onida drive,” said Arneson.
