The Blood Center is holding a blood drive for a Walker baby born with a severe congenital heart disease.
At just 5-months-old, Nathaniel Sparks has already had his first cardiac surgery and is expected to have another one where he’s being treated at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans.
Baby Nathaniel was born with Complete Atrioventricular Canal Defect (CAVC), a congenital heart disease where the heart doesn’t form properly during the first eight weeks of pregnancy causing holes between the left and right sides of the heart. The condition is often associated with Down syndrome.
