The Red Cross partnered with a Maize teen on Saturday to host a blood drive that is near and dear to the hearts of the Soderstrom family.

Hannah Soderstrom was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. Along her road to recovery she decided to become an advocate for blood donation.

Soderstrom received over 50 blood and platelet transfusions during her treatment. Her family says they have paid it forward in less than two years by sponsoring three blood drives and collecting more than 160 donations.

“I have received over 50 units of blood and I just want to give back from all that I’ve taken so I felt a little greedy and thought I might as well give back,” said Hannah Soderstrom. “Since I can’t give blood I thought what if I held a blood drive.”
