After a successful effort in February, the Fort Wayne Komets are partnering with the American Red Cross for another blood drive in honor of a girl with a special connection to the team.

Makayla Willett is the daughter of Komets trainer Matthew Willett. She’s battling a rare blood disease and requires frequent transfusions.

As they did earlier in the season, the team is asking its fans to roll up their sleeves and help Makayla and others in need of “the gift of life.”

Thursday’s drive is taking place from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the SportONE Parkview Icehouse, located at 3869 Ice Way in Fort Wayne.
