For the second year in a row, the American Red Cross is holding a Garden City blood drive in memory of Robert Becker, a longtime local blood donor who was killed in a motorcycle crash in October 2017.
The drive is scheduled for 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Community Congregational Church, 710 N. Third St.
Becker worked for 29 years as a zookeeper at Lee Richardson Zoo and served as chaplain for St. Catherine Hospice, Vets for Veterans, the American Legion and the Patriot Guard.
According to a news release from the Red Cross, Becker donated almost 16 gallons of blood during his lifetime. Last year’s Robert Becker memorial blood drive collected 107 donations.
