Region 8 can support men and women serving by “rolling up their sleeves”!
A blood drive kicked off early Tuesday morning and is underway at the Military Science Building on Arkansas State University’s campus.
Officer in Charge of the Fort Leonard Wood Blood Donor Center in Missouri, Patrick Kaer, said this blood drive is happening with the help of Jonesboro city leaders and emergency services.
“We were invited to Jonesboro by the emergency services and city hall,” Officer Kaer said. “They invited us to participate in a blood drive. So, we’re asking the city of Jonesboro to help out the military and to donate blood products to help soldiers overseas.”
Officer Kaer said the need for blood is constant.
“This goes back to a partnership we developed in 2009,” Officer Kaer said. “The need is still there, soldiers need blood every day. Worldwide operations continue. We are still deploying forces, mobilizing them throughout the world. It also helps dependents, families of those soldiers here stateside. So every military hospital and military operation receives blood products to help the soldiers and their families through times of emergencies.”
A-State Junior Hannah Malone took time out of her day on to donate blood.
“I have some friends who are in ROTC and they invited me out here,” Malone said. “I like to do anything that supports our troops. My whole family is military.”
