With World Blood Donor Day on June 14, the NZ Blood Service is asking “true heroes to stand up and take a bow”.
Half Moon Bay resident Gregory Morrison is one of the 110,000 life-savers across the country and 3000 active blood donors in East Auckland.
Once a month, the 55-year-old IT business analyst goes to Epsom Donor Centre of the NZ Blood Service to give plasma.
He started contributing four years ago, though his deeds date back to the years he was a university student.
“It’s a good thing to do. Blood is urgently needed for emergencies and operations. If I can, why not?” Morrison says.
“It’s just part of being a good citizen. I want to encourage everyone to donate blood if they can, because they might need their blood if they’re in an accident.”
