Saving lives is all in a day’s work for Billerica firefighters, but last Saturday, they went a step further as they hosted a special blood drive at fire headquarters to honor pediatric patients at Boston Children’s Hospital.

The firefighters on duty could not give because of limits on lifting after blood donation, but at least 20 members of the community came out to support the #GivePintsForHalfPints campaign. They were supported by Billerica first responders including John Pellegrino, fire alarm operator, who helped them register at the drive and provided sweet treats such as lollipops.

Shannon Dow and Clancy Main, both of Tyngsboro, were two of the generous donors.

Dow was giving this gift of life on a special day: her birthday.
