An aspiring chef recognized with a uncommon blood dysfunction is hoping her story encourages others to become blood donors in the neighborhood.
Naomi Hennesey, 19, has Thalassemia, an autoimmune blood dysfunction that stops her from making crimson blood cells.
“I need to get units of blood every three weeks,” Naomi Hennesey stated. “Sometimes when I am really low, I need three units, but when I am better, I need two.”
“I have seen what she is like to be low on blood,” stated Annette Hennesey, her mom. “I know what it is like when she needs blood now. Her energy is real low and she is not as happy as the little girl I am used to having around the house.”
Annette adopted Naomi from China when she was 10-years-old.
