City of Swan Assets Works Coordinator Jamie Hogan drives to the local donor centre and rolls up his sleeve to donate plasma every fortnight.
Within an hour, Jamie has responded to emails on his iPad, caught up on the latest sports and helped countless people who need blood products to stay alive or be healthy.
The relatively simple and easy act of donating blood, plasma or platelets often makes an immense difference to people who have cancer, are undergoing medical treatment or need a blood transfusion; something Jamie has experienced first-hand.
“My two-year-old niece passed away from cardiomyopathy while waiting for a heart transplant. She started bleeding and they couldn’t find a blood donor,” Jamie said.
“It was a very sad time and it certainly motivated me to start donating.”
Every blood donation helps save three lives.
