Joe and Emily Warren’s miracle galloped down the hall at United Blood Services’ Butte donor center, jumping up and down to make the red lights on his sneakers go off.
Emily sat, making her blood donation — her personal thank-you — and smiled as she watched.
Bowen Warren just celebrated his fifth birthday, and right there’s your miracle.
Bowen was born seven weeks premature with a hole in his heart and serious flaws in his circulatory system. His pulmonary artery and his aorta were basically reversed, and the pulmonary artery was smaller than it needed to be.
He had heart surgery soon after birth, and then, when he was about a year old, he had another major surgery at Children’s Hospital in Seattle to correct the other circulatory flaws.
In the whole process, Bowen received “about 18” blood transfusions, his father Joe said.
